If you grew up a hockey fan, there's no doubt that you'll be familiar with the hit Disney film "The Mighty Ducks". Perhaps you'll remember hearing, last year, that there would be a Mighty Ducks TV series in the works. Well the wait for an announcement is official over as the ABC Signature Studios series has found a home on Disney+, with production set to begin in February of 2020.

You can expect some plot changes, as the series will differ from the original film. Instead of focusing on an arrogant Lawyer (Gordon Bombay) being forced into coaching a Pee-Wee hockey team as community service to avoid jail time, the series will focus on a 13-year-old boy who is kicked off of his junior division Mighty Ducks team. The story will outline the process in which the boy and his mom start their own team, selecting a coach, recruiting some players and finding a place for the team to play.

It is uncertain if any of the original characters/cast members will appear in the series, such as Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson) or Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez).

If you're skeptical of the series, it may intrigue you to know that the original Screenwriter Steven Brill and original Producer Jordan Kerner are involved with this series as well. The original film was made on a $10 million budget and earned over $50 million, which was a pretty good chunk of change in 1992.

Rumours of a D4 film have, at least for now, been squashed with the franchise seemingly going in a different direction with this series.
