The attempt by a Russian coach to motivate one of his young players is garnering a range of feedback on social media. While many are disgusted by the incident, others say it's not uncommon in any country, and the coach was simply trying to get his player to listen to the instruction he was being given.
The video in question shows the coach of Mamonty Yugry, a junior ice hockey team from Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia, hitting an 18-year-old player while trying to explain to him what he did wrong on the ice. According to one Reddit user, the player being hit started his shift in his team's zone and his unit couldn't break out with the puck successfully. His movement without the puck was a major factor in the failed breakout.
Mamonty Yugry takes part in the MHL, the top tier of junior hockey in Russia. You can watch the video below and be the judge of whether the coach's actions are warranted in this, or any situation.
