Just a week after announcing he was retiring from playing hockey, 38-year-old Dennis Seidenberg is back with the last NHL team he played for. The former Stanley Cup champion has joined the New York Islanders in a player development role.

Seidenberg recently announced he was hanging up the skates as his shoulders and wrists were "pretty much done after 15 years in the NHL." For a player drafted in the sixth round (172nd overall), he carved out a long career for himself, and got to hoist the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011. He spent the latter part of his career with the New York Islanders, although he was used sparingly in his last season. His last major competition came with the German national team at the World Cup in Denmark in May of 2018.

"I have never taken for granted what a privilege it is to play this game, and how the important the fans are. I will cherish the experiences and memories I have for the rest of my life," said Seidenberg, in a release from the New York Islanders.

He managed 44 goals and 251 points over 859 NHL games.
