The Winnipeg Jets sure could use some help on the back end, but it likely won't be coming from Dustin Byfuglien any time soon. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said Saturday night the big blueliner is taking his time, and won't make a decision either way in the short-term.
“I spoke today to [Byfuglien's] agent Ben Hankinson and he said, ‘Look, don't jump to any conclusions,'” Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada's ‘Headlines' segment. “He says that this is not something that's going to end quickly, it's going to play out over a little bit of time.”
Byfuglien is currently on a leave of absence from the team as he decides whether he wants to return to hockey. Over the summer, it was said the 34-year-old had "lost his love for the game."
“I believe the Jets are really hoping that Byfuglien, the urge comes back to him once he sees the team playing,” Friedman added. “But I've been told don't jump to any conclusions, and don't expect necessarily any kind of quick announcement.”
Byfuglien has been with the Jets' organization for eight years. Before that, he spent five years in Chicago, winning a Stanley Cup in 2010, as well as one year in Atlanta before the team moved to Winnipeg.
