Dylan Cozens was tossed from the Senators' game against the Ducks tonight after a major for interference on A.J. Greer.
The Ottawa center was assessed five minutes for interference plus a game misconduct, so his night ended early. The Senators finished on the wrong end of a 6-3 final in Anaheim.
Greer, the Ducks left winger, knows this territory. He has piled up 28 penalty minutes in 12 games this season, and he already fought Hunter McDonald over a clean hit on Oct. 24 in Philadelphia.
Cozens came in with 10 points in 15 games this season, four of them goals. On Saturday in San Jose he scored once and added an assist in a 5-1 Ottawa win.

Heading into tonight, the Senators sat at 9-5-1 with a +6 goal differential. The Ducks were 5-7-1 and had lost two straight, with a -9 differential.
BarDown asked whether the major and the game misconduct were the right call on Cozens.

That is the debate, and it is a fair one. A major with a game misconduct is the heaviest option a referee has on an interference hit, and the ejection costs Ottawa a center for the rest of the game. Whether the league looks at it again is unknown.
Cozens and Greer: a collision that keeps growing
Greer and Cozens were already linked in our coverage Sunday, when A.J. Greer fought the referee to chase Dylan Cozens. Add tonight's hit, and the two names keep ending up in the same sentence.
Greer's numbers explain why Anaheim keeps him in the lineup. He has four goals and two assists, and his 476 career penalty minutes in 338 games show what he brings when a game turns physical.
Cozens has taken eight penalty minutes this season before tonight, so the five-minute major is the biggest mark on his sheet. His career total stands at 289 PIM in 459 games.
Ottawa now turns to a Wednesday game in Buffalo with a 6-3 loss behind it. Anaheim hits the road first, at Vancouver on Tuesday, and Greer will likely be asked about the hit on the way.
Was a five-minute major and a game misconduct the right call on Dylan Cozens for his hit on A.J. Greer?
