Tyler Seguin isn't ready to imagine the Dallas Stars without Jamie Benn, even with his longtime captain's future up in the air.

Asked whether he'd talked to Benn about re-signing, Seguin didn't bother playing it coy.

"Not allowed. You ain't allowed to leave," Seguin said. "I got one year left here, gotta stay."

Then he softened it with respect. "I don't think anyone knows what Jamie's gonna do till Jamie does it, and I'll stay out of his way and let him come to his own decisions. But I'd obviously love to have him for one more shot."

That's a teammate making his pitch without pressuring his friend. Wanting him back, but leaving the call where it belongs.

The clip catches the half-joking delivery, Seguin grinning through the you-ain't-allowed-to-leave line before turning sincere.

A 112-point team gives Benn a real reason to stay

Here's why one more shot isn't just a nice phrase. Dallas finished third overall with 112 points. This is a legitimate contender, not a team selling hope.

So Benn's decision carries real weight. He's choosing whether to chase a Cup with the only franchise he's known.

The 36-year-old already bet on fit once. He put up 36 points in 60 games on a $1 million cap hit, a captain easing into a complementary role on a deep roster.

That bargain deal tells you a lot. A player chasing money doesn't sign for a million. A player chasing a ring does.

Seguin's own clock is ticking too. At 34, on a $9.85 million deal with a year left, he played just 27 games this season. The window for this duo isn't wide open forever.

Here's my read: these long-tenured pairs rarely get a clean last ride together. Benn re-upping cheap for one more run with Seguin would be a fitting final chapter.

But it's his call, and Dallas isn't standing still. The Stars have been linked to the Dylan Larkin chase, so the front office has its own big decisions looming.

Whatever Benn chooses shapes the summer in Dallas. Seguin made his pitch in public, half-joking and fully sincere.

Now the captain decides whether there's one more shot left to take.
