TRADE - Minnesota adds nine-year veteran blueliner in deal with Anaheim
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Anaheim Ducks have traded defenceman John Klingberg to the Minnesota Wild.
In exchange, the Anaheim Ducks received a 2025 fourth-round pick, defenceman Andrej Sustr and the rights to forward prospect Nikita Nesterenko, per Joe Smith of The Athletic.
Klingberg, 30, was on a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks and is set to become an unrestricted free agent, for the second consecutive year, on July 1st.
In 50 games this season, Klingberg has 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists), 30 penalty minutes and is a minus-28.
The Wild have been fairly busy on Friday, shipping forward Jordan Greenway to the Buffalo Sabres and acquiring forward Oskar Sundquist from the Detroit Red Wings. On Tuesday, they added Marcus Johansson and Gustav Nyquist, the latter of whom is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.
Minnesota currently sits second in the Central Division with a record of 35-21-6 through 62 games, which has them three points back of Dallas for first place.
