Oilers AHL affiliate fire head athletic trainer after being charged with felony offences

It's been a dark day in the world of hockey on Sunday. Earlier, Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Ian Cole was accused of grooming and sexual abuse in a statement from an individual on Twitter who wanted to remain anonymous. He was then subsequently suspended by the Lightning until the NHL concludes their investigation.

Just after 10:30 p.m. ET, the Bakersfield Condors, AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, released a statement which said that they have fired head athletic trainer Chad Drown after he was charged in the state of California for contacting a minor to commit a sexual offence.

The Condors statement read, "Earlier today we became aware that Bakersfield Condors head athletic trainer Chad Drown, had been charged with very serious felony charges related to contacting a minor to commit a sexual offence in the state of California.

We are shocked and dismayed by the news and Mr. Drown has been relieved of his duties immediately."

The Edmonton Oilers said that they are working with the Condors management and fully support the decision they made on Sunday night.
