Sabres part ways with director of amateur scouting, entire Amerks coaching staff
In addition to the firing of general manager Jason Botterill and his assistant general managers Randy Sexton and Steve Greely, the Buffalo Sabres have also parted ways with Rochester Americans head coach Chris Taylor, as well as his assistant coaches Gord Dineen and Toby Petersen.
Taylor was hired by Botterill to coach the Amerks in 2017, and not long after, he brought Dineen and Petersen to assist him behind the bench. In three seasons, Taylor and his staff coached the Amerks to a 116-65-20-13 record and helped them reach the Calder Cup playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
Before the 2019-20 season ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rochester was hanging onto the fourth spot in the AHL's Eastern Conference with a 33-20-4-5 record.
Shortly after news broke that Taylor and his staff had been relieved of their duties, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that director of amateur scouting Ryan Jankowski and "a good chunk of amateur staff" had been let go as well.
Jankowski was hired in 2017 and oversaw two drafts in Buffalo, including the 2018 draft, when the Sabres selected Rasmus Dahlin with the first overall pick. Before joining the Sabres organization, Jankowski spent time with Hockey Canada, the Montreal Canadiens, and the New York Islanders.
