Kim Pegula staying on as Sabres president

Buffalo Sabres president Kim Pegula is keeping her job title with the team, with a focus on making the small-market franchise economically sustainable, despite many outsiders complaining that the team has been poorly managed during her tenure.

Pegula, who is a co-owner of the team, told The Associated Press that she believes she is the best-suited person for the job of streamlining the operation, although she did announce that the process has been going on longer than originally planned.

“Sometimes I kick myself in, saying, ‘How come I didn't see this sooner?' That's on me,” said Pegula. “But that's what I'm trying to do now, trying to really remold and reshape the organization into what Terry and I envision. One thing I've been preaching is sustainability, about how to ensure we are here in this Buffalo area for a long time.”

Due to the coronavirus, the Sabres are facing financial challenges, as they are already one of the NHL's smallest-market teams. The economic conditions, along with the team's personal struggles, have many wondering how the team will do next season in regards to fan attendance. They were already beginning to struggle selling out games recently, something they had no problem with in the past.

Despite the public's thoughts on her and the job she is doing, Pegula has made it clear she does not plan on giving up the role anytime soon.

“Do I want to do it forever? No,” Pegula said in regards to being the team president. “Who knows? I've been kind of enjoying this role. Yeah, I'm fixed in.”
