It was previously reported that the Leafs' decision on whether or not to loan current Marlies defenceman Rasmus Sandin to Team Sweden for the World Juniors would be complicated with Tyson Barrie leaving the Leafs' last game with an ankle injury.
On Sunday, it was confirmed by the Maple Leafs that Sandin would in fact be loaned to Sweden.

It remains to be seen whether or not Barrie will be able to rejoin the Leafs for their game on Tuesday against the Sabres, but he was on the ice at practice on Monday.

Toronto has recalled a couple of Marlies defencemen on emergency basis to join them in practice, however they can only remain with the team if Barrie is not cleared to play on Tuesday. One of the defensemen recalled is 2017 1st rounder (17th overall) Timothy Liljegren. Liljegren has been playing solid two way hockey for the Marlies this season. It will be interesting to see if he gets a longer look if Barrie's injury keeps him out of the lineup for longer than anticipated.

Whether or not Barrie is able to play against the Sabres, the issue appears to be short-term, since the Leafs' were willing to allow Sandin to play for Sweden at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships.
