The Vegas Golden Knights are by far the best expansion team in NHL history, reaching success faster than any other new franchise. The only other expansion teams to even make the playoffs in their first season were the 1967-68 St. Louis Blues, the 1979-80 Edmonton Oilers and the 1979-80 Hartford Whalers.

Vegas managed to advance all the way to the Stanley Cup Final and even won a game, before eventually losing to the Washington Capitals four games to one. Noting that St. Louis also made the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season, they were placed into a division of six expansion franchises so that an expansion team in the final would be a guarantee. To add to that, the Blues didn't manage to win a single game in that series and were swept by the Montreal Canadiens.

Now in their third season of existence, the Golden Knights are still setting records. After Friday night's win in Dallas, the Knights have won 50 of their first 100 regular season road games. They now hold the record for most wins, most points and highest points percentage through the first 100 regular season road games of any expansion team in NHL history.
