The Detroit Red Wings and the Carolina Hurricanes have announced a trade including a pair of minor league defencemen. Kyle Wood is heading to Detroit and Oliwer Kaski will be making his way to Carolina.

Neither player has made their NHL debut and are both playing in the AHL this season.

Kyle Wood, 23, is in his fourth full season in the AHL and his first with the Charlotte Checkers; the Carolina Hurricanes' affiliate. He has started the season scoring 3 goals and putting up 2 assists in 15 games. His best professional season came in his first full AHL season in Tucson when he managed to score 43 points. He did, however, have a -23 plus/minus that season for the Roadrunners. He was drafted 84th overall in 2014 by the Colorado Avalanche.

Oliwer Kaski, 24, signed with Detroit at the beginning of the season on a one year entry level contract as an undrafted free agent. Kaski has played the last 3 seasons in his native Finland after a one year run with Western Michigan University. After signing with Detroit he was assigned the the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL scoring 2 goals and notching 3 assists in 19 games.
