When the New York Rangers acquired the signing rights to Jericho, NY native Adam Fox from the Carolina Hurricanes, - acquired in the Hanafin, Lindholm/Hamilton, Ferland trade - they knew they were getting a quality prospect with a great chance to make an immediate impact for them on the back end. They believed in the former 3rd rounder, (66th overall in 2016) so much so, that they sent a 2nd rounder in 2019 and a conditional 3rd rounder in 2020 to Carolina. The condition was, should Fox play 30 games for the Blueshirts in 2019-20, that 3rd-rounder is converted into a 2020 2nd-round selection instead.

With Fox having played in his 30th game of the season on Tuesday, against the LA Kings, the 2020 3rd round selection in the deal has officially been upgraded to a 2nd rounder, much to the delight of the Hurricanes. The Canes are a young team, with the cupboards stocked and upgrading to a 2nd rounder in the deal that already yielded 2019 second-rounder (37th overall), Mads Sogaard, will be viewed as the icing on the cake in Raleigh.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are enjoying the fact that Fox has helped accelerate the rebuild, fortifying the back end and contributing with some secondary scoring from the blue line. The former Harvard University and U.S. National U18 standout has recorded 16 points through his first 30 NHL games and looks like he is going to be a real gem for the Rangers moving forward.

Fox is signed through the 2021-22 season at $925,000.
