Now into December, we are just a few weeks away from the best time of year… holiday hockey! It's almost time for the IIHF World Juniors and the Spengler Cup from Switzerland.
The Spengler Cup is set to hold it's 93rd edition beginning this Boxing Day. This will be Team Canada's 36th appearance as they look to capture their 16th title. Canada fell in the 2018 finals to KalPa of Kuopio, Finland after winning the previous three tournaments and four of the last six.
This year they will be joined in the Cattini Division by the perennial hosts HC Davos, along with HC Ocelari Trinec of the Czech Republic. The Torriani Division will consist of HC Ambri-Piotta of Switzerland, HC TPS or TPS Turku from Turku, Finland and Salavat Yulaev Ufa representing Russia.
Team Canada's schedule kicks off on Boxing Day against Ocelari Trinec. They will then play Davos on either Friday or Saturday depending on the result of their first game. The winner of the Boxing Day game will earn a day off during the group stage. Should Canada advance to the final, that game will take place on New Year's Eve at 6am EST!
