Corey Perry echoed Jon Cooper after Tampa Bay's loss, backing Andrei Vasilevskiy and turning the pressure toward the skaters in front of him.

The Lightning fell 3-2 on Wednesday night in Tampa Bay, and that result pushed them behind 3-2 in the series against the Canadiens. Friday's Game 6 in Montreal now carries everything.

Perry didn't dress it up after the game. He went straight at the issue and made it clear the standard inside that room wasn't met.

We didn't do the job. We pushed, but it wasn't there. It's frustrating in our building too, but thankfully, there's a Game 6.

That alone would have landed. But Perry kept going, and that's where the real weight of his message showed up.

When he was asked about the third-period goal from Alexandre Texier, Perry refused to let the blame drift toward his goaltender.

Perry's message hits Tampa's core

It's not on him. It's not on him. He's done a lot of good things for this team this year. It's not on him. It's on the guys in front of him.

Just look at the lack of effort from the Lightning's 'stars' who Perry clearly targeted with his comments.

That wasn't a heat-of-the-moment throwaway line. Perry repeated himself for a reason, and everyone in that locker room knew exactly who he was talking to.

The message was aimed at the group in front of Vasilevskiy, especially the veterans and the stars expected to drive the pace when the season tightens up.

Perry also didn't hide from the bigger picture. Tampa Bay isn't looking for style points now. It's looking for one clean response on the road.

We have to win. We have to bring them back here.

That line says everything about where the Lightning stand. Lose Friday at the Bell Centre, and their season is done.

It also lines up with the mood Cooper showed earlier. Between the coach and one of the club's most seasoned forwards, the frustration inside Tampa's room isn't hard to read.

Now the pressure shifts to the big names. Perry has already made his stand. Game 6 will show whether the rest of the Lightning follow it.
