Bad news concerning Team USA's star and Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk emerged ahead of a crucial game for his team.
After losing their last four games, the Senators officially fell out of the Eastern Conference's second wild-card playoff spot to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It doesn't seem like they're able to maintain the rhythm they set earlier this season, likely because of injuries to key players such as Shane Pinto, Josh Norris, and Brady Tkachuk, all considered day-to-day.
But Norris has been out of the lineup since February 1st, Pinto since February 4th, and Tkachuk since the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Even though all three of them took part in today's practice, the Senators called up two players from Belleville, which could indicate that both Pinto and Tkachuk won't play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, according to Bruce Garrioch.
Yesterday, Tkachuk offered insights on his health, saying he felt fine but doesn't want to risk aggravating his injury:
"I'm feeling alright. I think it was just a smart decision to [sit out Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens].
I didn't feel like I had the pop, and I started to feel it a little bit. I'm still hopeful to play tomorrow, but I just need to make a smart decision. I definitely don't want to reaggravate it and miss any more time."
"I'm just going to continue to do everything in my power to play tomorrow, and we'll see how it goes the rest of the day today and tomorrow.
Of course, I want to go to battle with these guys, but I think everybody in here and Sens fans, they don't want to see something nagging and take away from my game for the next 24, next 25 games.
So, maybe take the time for one more [game] just to be ready to go, but yeah, we'll just have to wait and see."
While we're still waiting for an official confirmation, it would be surprising to see him in uniform tonight, even if all games will be meaningful for the Sens this season.
