800-Game NHL Veteran Placed on Waivers by the Calgary Flames
An 800-game NHL veteran will be placed on waivers on Thursday afternoon by the Calgary Flames, according to Frank Seravalli.
The Calgary Flames entered the 4 Nations Face-Off break amid a three-game losing streak and are now fifth in the Pacific Division, after being surpassed by the Vancuver Canucks in the standings.
With 27 games remaining to the regular calendar, the team is still in the playoff race, but players will need to make a big push in order to clinch their spot.
In breaking news, it appears the organization is getting ready to make an important move, as general manager Craig Conroy decided to place Tyson Barrie on waivers.
Barrie, the 33 year-old defenseman, will be placed on waivers on Thursday afternoon.
The insider Frank Seravalli was the first to share the news on X:
Barrie was limited to only 13 games with the Flames this season after signing a PTO with the team back in September. He was healthy scratched many times, and was even sent down to the AHL this year, where he played two games with the Calgary Wranglers.
In an interview in January, Barrie talked about how it was important for him to play, as his kid is old enough now to understand hockey and often ask him if he scored a goal after returning from a game.
In his own words:
I'd like to have him come to more games and get to watch me play a little bit. That's a new motivation for me, too."
His head coach, Ryan Huska, opened up about the diffiulty behind returning on the ice after missing out so many games, a reality that Barrie faced earlier this season:
Even in conversations with teammates, you have your individual meetings with guys and a lot of them would talk about him, how they really enjoy being around him, the quality of person that he is. And all of them know the type of player that he is and what he's done in the past."
The veteran took part in 822 games as of now, and seems determinted to reach the 1000-game mark:
