The Montreal Canadiens sadly announced today that Stanley Cup champion Marcel Bonin has passed away.
The team made the sad announcement on X and their team website, revealing that the Stanley Cup champion is no longer with us.
The former Hab began his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1952-53 season before joining the Canadiens in the 1957-58 season.
He would go on to play five years with the team, winning three consecutive Stanley Cups between 1958 and 1960.
"In 454 career games with the Red Wings, Bruins and Canadiens, Bonin scored 97 goals and added 175 assists. The 5-foot-10 ,170 lb forward also produced 25 points (11G, 14A) in 50 career playoff appearances, winning his first Stanley Cup with Detroit in 1954-55.
Bonin enjoyed the most productive season of his career in 1959-60 when he recorded 51 points in 59 games with the Canadiens (17-34-51), in addition to tallying five points (1G, 4A) in eight postseason games."
Bonin also made four all-star game appearances, three of which came during his time with the Canadiens.
He had two career hat-tricks both of which came with the Habs, one scored against the New York Rangers on January 11th 1958 and the other against the Chicago Blackhawks on December 26th, 1959.
Marcel will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and fans. Rest in peace Marcel.
