Stanley Cup Champion Tyler Johnston signs professional tryout with Atlantic team

The Boston Bruins have made a big free agent signing tonight adding forward Tyler Johnson on a player tryout contract for the preseason.

The Boston Bruins have been trying to get their roster depth back for the past couple of seasons after players like David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron have retired. Today they took another step in the right direction signing former Chicago Blackhawk and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tyler Johnston to a player tryout contract.

This signing will bring in yet another veteran presence to the Boston Bruins locker room. In his career, Tyler Johnson has played over 700 games and been a key part of 2 Stanley cup champion teams in Tampa Bay.

Since leaving Tampa Bay Tyler Johnson has spent 3 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. During that time he has struggled to stay healthy but has played well when in the lineup. His best season with the Blackhawks came in 2022-23 when he had 32 points in 56 games.

At 34 years old Tyler Johnson will likely just be a depth forward for the Boston Bruins if he makes the team. With his experience playing in 3rd and 4th line roles, this could be the perfect opportunity for Tyler Johnson to excel in his later career.

Before that can happen though Tyler Johnson will need to make the opening night roster. His path to playing time will begin with good performances in the preseason. If he struggles to stand out Tyler Johnson's NHL career could end up being on the ropes.
