TSN's Darren Dreger broke the news on Tuesday that Sorokin has switched North American agents, walking away from former agent Shumi Babayev and electing to sign with Dan Milstein, the NHL's largest Russian player agent. Milstein also represents the likes of Nikita Zaitsev, Nikita Kucherov and Vladislav Namestnikov among many others.
Sorokin has been eligible to play in the NHL since May 1st, however due to the NHL and NHLPA agreeing that teams could not sign college and other free agents for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, instead pushing these contracts to take effect at the start of the 2020-21 NHL season.
The consensus among scouts when it comes to Sorokin seems to be that the almost 25-year-old Russian is one of the absolute best - if not the best - netminders not currently playing in the National Hockey League.
Sorokin made a name for himself in the KHL when he arrived with CSKA Moscow in 2014-15. In almost 200 career starts with CSKA, Sorokin has never held a GAA above than 1.61 over the course of a full season.
With Isles backup Thomas Griess set to become an unrestricted free agent following the conclusion of the playoffs, it would appear that the door is wide open for Sorokin to get his shot with the Isles next season.
