The NHL's Department of Player Safety has fined Samuel Girard of the Colorado Avalanche the maximum allowable amount for boarding Chicago's Alex DeBrincat during a game Wednesday night. The fine amounts to $1,957.89. You can see the hit below.

Girard was not penalized on the play. In fact, a scrum ensued behind Colorado's net following the incident and Chicago would be the only team to receive a penalty out of it.

There seems to a bit of a rivalry brewing between Girard and DeBrincat. In a game three weeks ago, the two players dropped the gloves and went at it.

The fine by DoPS is being met with a lot of cynicism on Twitter. Many are saying the department has no consistency whatsoever while a few others are arguing the hit was not boarding.
