After scoring two goals against the Buffalo Sabres in the Maple Leafs' 5-3 win on Tuesday, Auston Matthews surpassed 100 even-strength regular season goals in his career thus far. He got to the mark extremely quickly too. It took him just 247 games to meet the mark and there are only six players that outscored Matthews even-strength during their first 247 games in NHL history.

Wayne Gretzky, Eric Lindros, Mario Lemieux, Brett Hull and Teemu Selanne are all in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The only reason Alexander Ovechkin isn't a hall of famer is because he is still an active player. Ovechkin is currently being mentioned as someone who could potentially be the one to break Gretzky's goal scoring record of 894, currently sitting at 679 goals himself. Ovi is certainly on his way to a first ballot Hall of Fame induction. That is some special talent that Matthews is being mentioned alongside.

Auston Matthews currently has 132 total goals in his career, with 101 being even-strength. That's about 77% of his goals coming without a man advantage. If Matthews finds a way to score more on the power play, his total goal numbers could reach legendary marks.
