Following the news that the Los Angeles Kings have parted ways with veteran forward Ilya Kovalchuk, there was much speculation as to where the 36-year-old might end up.
Many pundits surmised that Kovalchuk may return Russia to sign with Avangard Omsk of the KHL, as rumours had surfaced that the team had offered him a very lucrative deal. Others expressed their opinions that Kovalchuk has a desire to remain in the NHL.
On Tuesday, KHL reporter Igor Eronko has put an end to the speculation with a confirmation that the Russian winger does indeed intend to find a new NHL home for the remainder of the season.
Kovalchuk - who has become a free agent after his contract with the Kings was terminated - is open to take a league-minimum contract to sign with a Stanley Cup contender. The Boston Bruins are rumoured to be one of the teams that are interested.
