Ottawa's Scott Sabourin says he's feeling "much better" almost six weeks after colliding with Boston's David Backes and having to be stretchered off the ice. Sabourin is now skating with his team again for the first time since the incident, and took some time to speak with the media Monday, another first since the collision.

"I've been taking my time recovering, but, you know, we're just taking it day-by-day and I'm glad to be back out there with the guys," said Sabourin.

He states Backes did reach out to him shortly after the collision and he noted the kind words that Backes spoke about him in an interview afterwards, but says he hasn't spoken to him since. Backes was clearly shaken up and could be seen on the bench with tears in his eyes before leaving the November 2nd game with his own injury. It appeared that the two had knocked helmets before Sabourin fell awkwardly to the ice.

"That was awfully nice of him, it shows what kind of character he has, what kind of person he is," Sabourin said Monday about Backes.

Sabourin says before he can get back into a game, he needs to get back in shape after nearly six weeks off. He also needs to pass another neuro-psych test before he's medically cleared to play. Sabourin says he's hopeful he'll be back in the lineup sooner rather than later.
