Cole Caufield joined elite company during NCAA regular season

In their final regular season game on March 6th, Wisconsin came away with a 2-1 win over Michigan State, both goals coming courtesy of Montreal Canadiens prospect, Cole Caufield. With the win, Wisconsin clinched their first Big Ten regular season title since 2000, earning them the top seed in next week's Big Ten tournament.

Cole Caufield led the way for the Badgers the entire season, finishing with 46 points (25 G, 21 A), 2 penalty minutes, and was a +13 in 28 regular season games.

Caufield ended the 2020-21 campaign with a staggering 1.64 points per game, and a 0.89 goals per game. Both those statistics are remarkable, and have only been achieved by a few players over the past decade.

His 1.64 points per game is only surpassed by Kyle Connor, Jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau, and Kevin Hayes. Kyle Connor, Johnny Gaudreau, Ryan Donato, and Austin Smith were the only four players the have a higher goals per game rate than Caufield did in 2020-21.

The Canadiens' 2019 first round pick is expected to sign his entry-level contract within the next couple months, but first has his sights on a Big Ten tournament win, followed by an NCAA National Championship. It's also possible Caufield walks away with the Hobey Baker Award on April 11th, which is given annually to the best player in NCAA.

Caufield and the Wisconsin Badgers got a bye to the semi-finals of the Big Ten tournament, and will face either the fourth seed Notre Dame, or fifth seed Penn State on Monday, March 15th at 4:30pm ET.
