Barry Trotz discusses when he could make a potential return
Its been just over seven months since hockey fans last saw Barry Trotz behind an NHL bench. After four seasons as the head coach of the New York Islanders, he was fired and many speculated what he next move would be.
Earlier this season, Trotz admitted he would like to coach for an 'Original Six' team and at the time, the Toronto Maple Leafs were struggling a little bit, so many people were trying to connect the dots. Ultimately, the Maple Leafs stuck with Sheldon Keefe and have been had a solid four-to-five weeks.
During an appearance on 'The Chirp' podcast, Barry Trotz mentioned that it's unlikely he'll be back behind the bench before the end of the 2022-23 season, adding that a couple of teams have reached out.
Trotz, 60, sits third all-time on the coaching wins list with 914 and second all-time on games coached with 1,812. In 2018, he guided the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history and one year later won his second Jack Adams Award.
