The National Hockey League's trade deadline is 79 days away and there's a possibility that two long-time Chicago Blackhawks, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, could be available.
Kane and Toews are currently in the final year of their contracts and are set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Kane and Toews are expected to meet with Blackhawks management in January to discuss their futures with the organization.
"During my regular Monday appearance on TSN690 in Montreal, I noted that both players, along with their agent Pat Brisson, will have a discussion with management once the calendar flips to 2023. That is likely to occur at some point in January, though a final decision may not come until later in the season. My guess would be after the All-Star break, which would give the Blackhawks a little over four weeks to work the lines before the March 3 trade deadline." Pagnotta said.
He added, "Kane and Toews want to know their options before deciding whether or not they want to pursue another Stanley Cup championship with a different organization."
Pagnotta went on to mention that there has been a lot more interest in Kane than there has compared to Toews. Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Toronto have all reportedly shown interest in Patrick Kane, while Boston and Colorado have been linked to Jonathan Toews.
The duo have spent their entire careers with the Blackhawks. Kane was selected first overall by them in 2007 and has gone on to put up 1,201 points in 1,134 games. Meanwhile, Toews was taken third overall in the 2006 draft and has appeared in 1,040 games, recording 867 points.
