Jones' contract will see him earn $1.35 million for the 2022-23 season, while Kurashev will make $750,000. Both players will become restricted free agents once again next summer.
Jones, brother of fellow Blackhawks blueliner Seth Jones, joined Chicago in July 2021 after being dealt from the Edmonton Oilers in the Duncan Keith trade. In 51 games this season, the Arlington (Texas) native had fifteen points (five goals, ten assists), eighteen penalty minutes and was a minus-three.
Kurashev, 22, had a fairly good second season in the NHL during the 2021-22 campaign. The Munsingen (Switzerland) native put up 21 points (six goals, fifteen assists), twelve penalty minutes and was a minus-sixteen in 67 games.
With Kurashev and Jones now under contract, the Blackhawks no longer have any restricted free agents to sign. Their focus will now shift to training camp, with Chicago at the start of a rebuild. Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach were traded this summer, with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews likely being next, Blackhawks fans are in for a tough few years ahead.
