According to the Swedish media outlet, Larsson's new deal with Brynas will see him get a salary of 310,000 SEK per month. That's about $31,000 USD a month, or around $372,000 per year.
Larsson's agent stated that there were offers from the NHL, And, despite having the most lucrative contract in SHL history, Larsson certainly could have made more in North America. However, while his agent didn't come out and say it specifically, he indicated Larsson wanted something longer than a year in the NHL and wasn't getting it. He also wanted a bigger role with a team than he's used to. Because of that, he decided to return home.
It's a bit surprising that Larsson was unable to find a multi-year deal in the NHL. He's been a solid depth player for several years, amassing close to 500 regular season games in the NHL. Larsson was a second round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2010. He played for Minnesota, Buffalo, Arizona, and Washington over the course of his NHL career.
